The sword guard is called an "Iron Window".
It is a parry against an overhead strike and not effective from a static position.
I would not take such a stance if wary as there is difficulty in recovery to another guard or strike.
Better to use an en guarde, sword arm fully extended and either high or behind.
When fighting with the sword, always remember to flow like water rather than rely on strength or you will tire quickly.
